We have seen a dramatic increase in both men and women undergoing breast reduction liposuction. In fact, in 2015, breast reduction through liposuction for men and women combined rose 13% from the previous year.
The primary reason is more awareness about the existence of the procedure, but there is also the simple word-of-mouth factor. Better techniques have ensured long-term benefits for people who have undergone the procedure, with no scarring, shorter recovery times, an aesthetically pleasing look and reduced physical and emotional challenges.
At the clinic, we have seen a surge in enquiries about female breast reduction as more people understand the benefits and safety of liposuction, and so below we have explained in more detail the what, who and why of the process.
For many women, oversized breasts that are disproportionate to their bodies cause pain, physical limitations and psychological and emotional challenges. This stops the sufferer from taking part in physical activities like sports and exercise because oversized breasts can cause neck and back pain, skin irritation, and poor posture.
Through tumescent liposuction, tiny microcannulas are used to remove excess fat resulting in minimal postoperative pain, rapid recovery and return to normal activities. There is also virtually no scarring.
The simplicity of the procedure ensures there is no change in the overall shape of the breast. There is a reduction in size and an uplifting of the breast due to the weight reduction. The process also allows the natural elastic properties of the female breasts to contract and create elevation.
Is This Procedure Suitable For Anyone Who Needs A Breast Reduction?
Whilst it is suitable for most if a woman’s breasts contain more glandular tissue than fat we would recommend a more traditional approach to breast reduction involving surgery.
How Do I Know If I Am A Good Candidate For Tumescent Liposuction?
Often the best candidates for tumescent liposuction are women who have gone through menopause, as much of their glandular breast tissue has been replaced by fatty tissue ensuring liposuction can work more effectively.
Younger women who are overweight may also be good candidates as they are likely to have breasts with large amounts of fat.
Young women who are relatively slim are unlikely to be good candidates as in our experience their breasts have a large proportion of glandular tissue. The same goes for women with particularly pendulous breasts or with breasts that sag or droop, as the fat content is likely to be low, making liposuction relatively ineffective. In these cases, breast implants or excision of skin is probably the better method of achieving the desired look.
